Greetings from the CIC!
We have really enjoyed working with all of you in 2016-2017! For those of you who are leaving AISC this year, please remember all of your good times in the CIC.

Some exciting news! This summer we will be doing a few renovation projects to better serve you! As a result, we won't be holding summer hours in the CIC. However, please remember we have tons of eBooks. If you need help accessing them, please come see us!

Online News - All the major news sites in the world at your fingertips. Check these out each day and see what is going on in the world or find a story that you like and follow it as it develops. From Blue Lobsters to tsunamis on Mars, there is ALWAYS something happening in the world! Here are some examples of websites to explore! - BBC, New York Times, CNN, Al Jazeera

I shared this article last year and it’s worth sharing again: What Reading Does to Your Brain is Truly Fascinating. In the article it refers to a study done by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University who observed the structure of children's brains before and after 100 hours of intensive reading training. The study shows that “intensive instruction to improve reading skills in young children causes the brain to physically rewire itself, creating new white matter that improves communication within the brain.”

For those of you returning, we look forward to seeing you again in the fall. Here is a Middle School Reading List Summer 2017 to help all of you keep reading all summer long. Here are the lists from previous years as well: Summer Reading List 2016 and Summer Reading List 2015. The link will bring you to the most popular young adult books, with a small description and genre. Additionally, here is a another Levelled Book List, sorted by the reading level of each book. If you don’t have time to pick up a book now, please do so while you are travelling.

Dear Middle School Parents,

We are entering the last two weeks of school next week. How time has flown by this school. We invite you to the final concert of the year. The Middle School Choir and Strings classes will be putting on their end of the year concert for us on Wednesday, 24 May at 2:30pm in the FAC Theater. Please join us to listen to some beautiful music as the students show off their musical skills that they have been practicing all year.

Lost and Found
Lost and Found items are stored near the MC rooms. Sonia David in the main reception holds the valuable items such as mobile phones and watches. Kindly visit these areas if your child has lost something. These items that have been found will also be displayed on tables in the main entrance starting Thursday, 25 May. Please stop by to see if any of these belong to your family. Those items not claimed by Thursday, 1st June will be donated to local orphanages.

End of Year Recognition Assemblies
Each grade level holds a year-end assembly that celebrates and is tailored to their age level. This approach to end-of-year recognition is in keeping with the middle school philosophy and is a positive and meaningful celebration for all of our students.

The 8th grade will have a day of celebration on campus on Wednesday, 31 May. Parents are invited to join in the celebration from 3:00 to 3:30 in the FAC Atrium. During this time, we will have a reflective slideshow and celebratory moment for the 8th grade as they move on to High School

The 7th grade recognition assembly will be held on Thursday, June 1st from  12:00 - 1:00 pm in the BBT. During this celebration, we will recognize students with the 4 Cs Awards. Each 7th grader will have selected a time or an event during the year when they have demonstrated one of the 4 C’s in a meaningful way. These will be read to the group by a classmate. All 7th grade parents are invited to this important celebration.

The 6th grade will be celebrating the important goal that each student feels that they have accomplished and will be given a certificate stating the attainment of their goal. The 6th grade I-awards will be held on Thursday, 1 June at 1:00 - 2:00 in the BBT. All sixth grade parents are invited to celebrate and recognize the emotional, intellectual, and social achievements that sixth grade students have made.

12 May

Dear Middle School Parents,

We have an important screening next week and we hope you can join us with your child(ren). On Tuesday the 16th of May from 3:45pm to 5:30pm in the FAC Theater, we will be hosting a screening and brief discussion of the documentary filmScreenagers.” The film explores how screen time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance. Parents who have seen the film have said they now feel more confident and better equipped to establish balance around screen time.
