Dear Middle School Parents,
Middle School Play
What a wonder performance the students have put on for us yesterday. You don’t want to miss it. Some people loved it so much, they are going again tonight. A huge thanks goes to the Director, Mr. Gareth Huxtable, for all the work he has put in to prepare the students. If you missed it yesterday, please come today at 6:00pm.
Of course, this could not have happened without some parent support. We would like to recognize Virginie Vlaminck for organizing ticket sales and all the parents who took shifts to sale this week. We would also like to thank Laurinda Porter and Brandi Baltzer for organizing the cast party for our students after the show this evening.

Middle School Coffee
Please mark your calendar for the next Middle School coffee on Tuesday, 9 February @8:45 in the Hall of Light. Mr. Paula Peters Frampton, our EAL Coordinator, will be presenting about how inclusion works to support all students. We will explain the roles of both the EAL and Subject teachers, one to ensure grade level content be delivered to all students and the other to ensure access to content for English Language Learners.
Early Release Wednesday - February 10th
In order to support continuous professional learning and development for AISC faculty members, there are seven Early Release Wednesdays on the calendar this year. On February 10th, we will have our sixth Early Release Wednesday. Teachers will be engaged in our ongoing work with Harvard's Project Zero educational consultant, Mark Church. Mark's work with us is focused on promoting engagement, understanding and independence for all learners. As a reminder, students will be released at 1:30 p.m. and are expected to depart campus in a timely and organized fashion. We appreciate your patience. In preparation, please plan on allowing longer time for entry and exit to the school at release time. Lunch will be a quick "grab and go" sandwich on this day for our Middle and High School students. If students want a hot lunch, please remember to pack one from home.
Food Service Updates
Food Tasting for Parents! Are you on campus on Monday afternoon? Come join us in the FAC Cafeteria on Monday, February 1, from 2:30-3:30 pm (note this time change to encourage more parent participation!), to sample the student menu. Choices include salad, soups, Asian, Indian and continental meals all offered in both veg and non-veg. Parents will be asked to complete a short survey after tasting the menu items.
Prepackaged snacks are now sorted by nutritional value. We are happy to announce that the iHub and both cafeterias have three broad categories of packaged snacks, sorted by nutritional content. Students will be able to identify snacks using colored labels representing the total calories from fat in each snack:
Blue= 15% or fewer total calories from fat
Orange= 15%-30% of total calories from fat
Grey= 30% or more total calories from fat
Please take some time to discuss this new system with your child. Reference posters will be placed in the iHub and both cafeterias to guide children in their snack selection, and they will be hearing about it in other ways too.
Fresh breads are now available in the iHub and ES cafeteria, as a choice for both sandwiches and take away. New varieties include Tuscan bread, focaccia, bagel, multigrain, baguette, French loaf, oatmeal, Panini, kalonji, and more. Please stop by and pick up a loaf for dinner.
Food services at AISC are always looking for ways to improve. Should you have questions, suggestions or concerns, please contact Food Service Manager Prakash Shanmugam (sprakash@aisch.org), Elementary Associate Principal Lori Newman (nlori@aisch.org) or Secondary Associate Principal Jason Hicks (hjason@aisch.org). If you have not had the chance to have a meal in the IHub or Main Cafeteria, please join us. We would love to hear your feedback about the food at AISC.
Have a great weekend.
