Principal’s Note
Week 37: 25 May
Dear Middle School Parents,
As we enter our last week of the 2017-18 school year, the 8th-grade students will have a day of celebration on campus on Wednesday, 30 May. Parents are invited to view the Social Justice Project at 9:45 and join in the celebration from 1pm to 1.30 pm in the gym. During this time, we will have a reflective slideshow and celebratory moment for the 8th grade as they move on to High School.
Grade 6 and 7 End of Year Recognition Assemblies
Each grade level holds a year-end assembly that celebrates and is tailored to their age level. This approach to end-of-year recognition is in keeping with the middle school philosophy and is a positive and meaningful celebration for all of our students.
The 7th-grade recognition assembly will be held on Friday, June 1st from 12:00 - 1:00 pm in the BBT. During this celebration, we will recognize students with the 4 Cs Awards. Each 7th grader will have selected a time or an event during the year when they have demonstrated one of the 4 C’s in a meaningful way. These will be read to the group by a classmate. All 7th-grade parents are invited to this important celebration.
The 6th grade will be celebrating the important goal that each student feels that they have accomplished and will be given a certificate stating the attainment of their goal. The 6th-grade I-awards will be held on Friday, 1 June at 12:00 - 1:30 in the Madras Hall. All sixth-grade parents are invited to celebrate and recognize the emotional, intellectual, and social achievements that sixth-grade students have made.
Summer Reading Lists
Mr. Jet has been providing summer reading lists for the past few years. The link will bring you to the most popular young adult books, with a small description and genre. Order them online now to take with you or so it arrives at your summer destination. While these are reading lists in English, we also encourage students to read in their mother tongue as well.
Additionally, here is another Levelled Book List, sorted by the reading level of each book. If you don’t have time to pick up a book now, please do so while you are traveling.
Reminders...
Return of Library Books / Yearbooks
Parents and students who have library books, please clear the pending at the earliest. Your child’s yearbook will be held at the office until library clearance is received.
New York Times First-Ever Student Podcast Contest
Imagine yourself — or, perhaps, you and your friends — as hosts of your own podcast. What would you talk about? Tell a story, document an interview, or start a conversation with your original podcast. You can podcast by yourself or in a group, but the final product must be five minutes or less. All entries must be submitted by 11:59am (HKT/SGT) on 30 May 2018. Click here for more details.
