Dear Parents,
This coming week we have many exciting events happening on and off campus related to Hour of Code, SEVAI, and RISE. Please read below to find out more about these events and others related to US college admissions and a community beach clean up. Some events require sign-ups. Links and information is provided for each event.
Parent Coffee
Thank you to everyone who attended this week’s parent coffee and a special thanks to Sherriden Masters and Jen Gold for presenting information related to MAP scores and digital citizenship. If you were not able to attend the coffee, you can find the slides here. The information is helpful for interpreting your child’s MAP scores and understanding how digital citizenship is integrated into our advisory program.
AISC Hoodies
-From Athletics and Activities Office
Parents and all students are welcome to order the AISC hooded sweatshirt. This second batch will arrive before winter break. Complete this form to customize your order. Choices include zip or pullover, black or navy, name, number, size and if you want "Raptors" down one sleeve. The orders received by the end of the day on November 21st will be sent to the manufacturer.
SEVAI Day Wednesday November 20
Wednesday, November 20, students will participate in their first SEVAI field day. SEVAI is our service learning program. Wednesday, students will connect with community partners to learn more about the organizations they have chosen to work with. Some of our SEVAI groups will be staying on campus and connecting with local schools (Hope Foundation, Seva Samajam) and our own school support staff. Other groups will be travelling off campus to engage in activities with other community partners (Writer’s Café, Tree Foundation, Blue Cross, Speed Trust). To learn more about SEVAI and the process students have been engaging with to prepare for their activities, you can view this overview of the program.
Please remind your child to wear his/her SEVAI t-shirt that was distributed this week in advisory.

WORKSHOP FOR MS and HS STUDENTS AND PARENTS
2:15 to 3:30 pm in the BBT: Higher Education 101, Holistic College Admissions, Researching Colleges, and Building a University List.
Reminder: AQI at AISC
Currently at AISC, we track the air quality index (AQI) by monitoring metered stations in various locales in the city, for example the U.S. Consulate, the airport, and other sites. Please see the Head's Notes for details of AQI levels at which we would limit or curtail activity. Our Air Quality Considerations and Practices are:
· We use the air quality data sourced from a variety of sources that are publicly available online. AISC is currently in the process of acquiring our own monitors for use on campus.
· School administrators will communicate to the faculty and students any need for modification of outdoor physical activity, keeping in mind both the AQI (Air Quality Index) and the multiple other factors influencing the health and well-being of students.
· If necessary, the PE and Athletics Departments will modify activities in order to keep heart-rates and respiration-rates low, while still providing instruction and movement opportunities for our students. Any activity will be short in duration and of minimal physical demand.
· Parents always have the right to request that their child(ren) does/do not participate in aerobic activity, or go outside for recess or classes, and under such circumstances, students will never be penalized for non-participation.
· Students exhibiting or complaining of shortness of breath or irritation in the throat are routinely sent into a building with conditioned air until they feel relief.
Beach Clean up with Namma Chennai
-From National Honors Society
Please join NHS and Namma Beach, Namma Chennai. All welcome!
Come participate in an event that has become a tradition for many AISC families and students. Ms. Virginie Vlaminck has built a high energy, authentic community collaboration for all. MS students should be accompanied by a parent as there are no permission slips for this event. Students and families must provide their own transportation.
Early Release Day
On Wednesday, November 20 we will have our Early Release Wednesday. Students are expected to depart campus in a timely and organized fashion upon dismissal at 2:00 pm. We appreciate your patience with traffic on these days as all three sections are picking up students at the same time. In preparation, please plan on allowing longer time for entry and exit to the school at release time. For our Middle and High School students, hot lunch will be served. Please note that the iHub will be open to provide an air conditioned waiting space until 2:40 pm in case drivers are delayed. Food services in the iHub will close at 1:50 pm.
Have a great weekend,
