Thursday 24 January

Principal’s Notes
24 January

Dear Parents,
Thank you to those of you who joined us for our coffee morning and third wellbeing summit this week. This week’s coffee morning also focused on wellbeing and our discussions revolved around AISC’s four domains (Positive Relationships, Self-Management, Healthy Habits and Self-Awareness) specific to middle school students. You can access the presentation here to get an overview of the topics discussed. In the coming weeks, we hope to send out information about parent book clubs to explore more together about ideas and practices to best support our students.

Student Parent Teacher Conferences & Celebration of Learning
Next Thursday, January 31 and Friday, February 1, we will have Student Parent Teacher Conferences. The conference signup system is now available. You can make an appointment with this link: https://ptcfast.com/schools/American_International_School_Chennai_5
Parent sign-ups will close on Wednesday 29 January. Appointments will be made on a first-come, first-served basis; once an appointment has been made with a teacher, that time will not be available to other parents. If for some reason you are unable to access the conference signup system, or if you don't have access to the internet, you are welcome to use the computers in the CIC/Library.
Conferences will be held in the teachers’ classrooms. Appointments with each teacher are for 10 minutes. As there is no passing time between conferences, you may want to consider leaving a 10-minute passing period between each scheduled appointment to allow for time to transition between classrooms and buildings on campus. Please keep the following in mind so that the day runs smoothly for all students, parents and teachers:
·      Bring your child with you to the conferences. Teachers are prepared to have conversations with students and parents.
·      Respect the needs of other parents and do not continue your discussion beyond the allotted time. If you feel you need additional time to speak with any of your child’s teachers you can schedule an appointment at a later date.
·      Breaks are scheduled for teachers throughout the day. These will be posted on your conference schedule.
This trimester’s Celebration of Learning will take the form of a gallery walk. Students will display learning from a variety of classes in public areas around campus. As you transition between conferences, please ask your child to explain his/her learning showcased in the artifacts posted.

MS Ensemble concert
On Thursday, January 31, the middle school music department will present a concert of fun sounds featuring all of the musicians in the middle school. Bands, choirs, strings, and guitars will take turns delighting your ears with classical, pop, and more. We invite parents to come enjoy the Winter Concert before conferences, on Thursday, January 31 from 2:00-3:30pm in the AISC Auditorium.

Yearbook Photo Make Up Session
Students who joined AISC after August 20 or missed their opportunity to take a yearbook photo should plan on stopping by the BBT on 21-23 January. Individual emails will be sent to students and posted in the student daily bulletin.

January Parent Coffee
Our next parent coffee will be Tuesday January 22 from 8:45-9:45 in the Hall of Light. Jen Gold, our middle school counselor, will lead the session. The topic will be adolescents and wellbeing.

SEVAI Day
Our next SEVAI day is Wednesday, January 23. Students will be out in the community or on campus supporting organizations they began to work with in December. If your child is involved in an activity off campus, please remind him/her to bring a snack from home or purchase one on campus to take along. Groups that are off campus over lunch time will receive a packed lunch from school.

One of the organizations our students are learning about is the Writer’s Café. This organization supports burn victims by providing training and jobs to women who are burn victims. In December, our students learned to make gelato and baked cookies to be sold at the café and on AISC’s campus to support the organization.
