Dear Middle School Parents,
We welcome the FCD prevention specialist next week. They will present a parent workshop on Thursday, March 1st at 8:45 am in the Madras Hall. We wanted to give parents a chance, at the start of the FCD visit, to listen to the facilitator so that they can more easily engage their children in conversations about the topic while it is also being discussed at school. Some of the topics the facilitator will discuss with parents include:
● Effective ways to communicate with your child about alcohol/drug use
● Up-to-date facts about current alcohol/drug use and trends
● What to say about your own experiences with alcohol and/or drug experimentation
● How to spot early warning signs of trouble and effective ways to respond
● The importance of communication among community members
This program presents a perfect opportunity for discussing alcohol and other drug-related issues with your children. Parent involvement is crucial to efforts to reduce the risks that teenagers face and in the commitment to keeping children safe. We hope to see you on March 1st. Feb Fling - A Message from HS Student Council
Woah! Feb Fling is almost here! Bouncy Castles, Water Balloons, and Obstacle Course! We hope you are all excited for Feb Fling. Tickets will be on sale all of next week in the mornings and after school, in front of the elementary and main office. Tickets will be priced at 400 rupees and will include one free meal and one raffle. Tickets can also be purchased on the day, for 500 rupees. Each person coming to Feb Fling will need their own ticket but will get one free meal and raffle entry. People from outside the school can come as well, so if you have any friend who would like to come they can. We have a plethora of great booths this year so we hope you will all come.
The purpose of Feb Fling is to raise money for High School service clubs through a fair of booths for Middle and Elementary School. Last year, we had a great turn out and were able to supply service clubs with lots of funds. We encourage you all to come to Feb Fling to support the high School service clubs.
Hello Class of 2022! Grade 8 students!
It is that time of year when we start looking ahead to the 2018-2019 school year and need to gather registration information. Please note the following information sessions and timeline. We are excited to get to know your students as they move into the high school!
On Monday, March 5th, we will have information sessions for parents regarding 9th grade registration. We will hold two sessions for parents in the hope that all will be able to attend. The meetings will take place at 8:30 am and at 6:00 pm in the Hall of Light.
Also, on the same day, we will meet with all 8th grade students during their Advisory period to discuss registration information. We will distribute registration forms and students will then select courses and gather teacher and parent signatures, returning them to the Middle School office no later than Friday, March 16th.
If questions about registration arise, please feel free to reach out to one of the high school counselors for clarification and support.

The Fifth Annual AISC RAPTORTHON!!!!
Looking for an fairly easy event to motivate you to get into shape? How about a great reason to do something fun with your child? Have you participated in the Raptorthon in prior years and want to try for a faster time?
Raptorthon 5 is a FUN FAMILY AND COMMUNITY EVENT for anyone in grade 4 or older (Please get permission from Coach Donna if you think your younger child can participate). This biathlon event combines swimming and running. Participants will be required to swim 150m, run 1600m then jump back in the pool and swim another 150m.
If you have any questions, please contact Donna Fava, Aquatics Director.
● Enter as an individual or as a team of two (one person swims and the other runs).
● Entry fee is 350 rupees per individual and 700 rupees per team. Late sign-up fee is 500 rupees per individual.
● The proceeds will be used to cover the cost of the event and any remaining money will benefit a local charity.
● Please bring a dish to share at Potluck Breakfast after the event
● All participants will receive a certificate with their official time either at the breakfast or it can be collected from my office the following week.
Are you interested in exploring some of the best creations in the city? Are you interested in showing off your creativity? We have two opportunities for you as a participant or as a maker.
Participants will be able to engage in hands-on experiences at “Maker Carnival Chennai” - a free to attend, community-run event right here at AISC. This ticketed event will be held on Saturday, March 10th, 2018 (walk in and walk out anytime during 10am to 4pm) and is a family friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness. A celebration of the maker movement! Don’t forget to sign up for your free ticket through here.
Makers interested in setting up their own booths are welcome to attend this event as well. Sign up as a maker to be able to showcase your creations and engage with the participants. Please be aware that this will be a registration event. Please register via the Maker Carnival website. You will need the ticket (printed or on a mobile device) in order to attend the event as a participant. STEAM Fest - SAVE THE DATE!
Our Middle School STEAM festival will take place on Thursday, March 15! All are welcome to attend to come and see our creative design solutions. Our focus this year is on the inquiry process itself, highlighting the importance of several aspects such as developing intriguing questions, using thoughtful planning, and building and refining our design ideas. Students choose their presentation projects from Science, Art, Design Technology, Theater, and Math classes.
The festival is a celebration of student design, creativity, and problem-solving!
Attendees can come to see models, watch presentations, and ask questions to learn more about the projects of our Middle School Engineers.

Time: 1:00- 3:00
Locations: Soccer field, covered gym, Unity courtyard, BBT
Guests will be provided with a map, a list of participants, a schedule of events, and a set of feedback prompts for presenters. In the meantime, be sure to ask your son or daughter to tell you all about their project!
