As we complete our first week of September, our program is in full swing! This week in advisory, students were introduced to our service learning program, SEVAI. Our SEVAI program allows students to choose activities in partnership with a variety of community organizations. Students will work with an organization of their choice during two experiences off campus later in the school year. Leading up to these field experiences, students will plan how to partner with their chosen organizations to respond causes they serve. You can preview the menu of options here. This coming Wednesday, students will interact with representatives from these organization at our Community Connections Fair. This year, for the first time, we are very proud to be able to include student-initiated SEVAI projects in our menu. Students in last year’s Grade 7 Social Studies classes developed these projects as a part of social entrepreneurship projects under the guidance of Mr. Mike Simmons. Please take some time to ask your child about their interest in the organizations and service activities they previewed this week in advisory!

Big Bad Blue
AISC and the Swim Team is inviting you to support and cheer for the Raptors swim team who will be competing tomorrow Saturday, September 7th in our excellent facilities. Teams from Mumbai, New Delhi, and Chennai will be competing against each other to try to improve their personal best. The swim meet will start at 9 am with a break at noon and restart at 1 pm. Please come and support your Raptors Swim Team!!!!
Coffee Morning
Tuesday, September 10 from 8:45-9:45 we host a Parent Coffee. This month, our MS Language Arts teachers will be sharing updates to reporting standards in the course across all three grade levels. There will also be an opportunity to participate in interactive activities to learn more about the language arts program. Additional information at the coffee will cover mid-semester reports, student parent teacher conferences and PowerSchool gradebooks.
Medical Information for Week Without Walls
If students take any medication, ensure that enough is brought for the expected trip duration plus two additional days. Medication should be in the original container with the student’s name, dose and frequency noted. Please send any medication for your child to the school nurse one week before the trip (September 16).

Student health records are important sources of information. These need to be updated and on record in order for students to travel on WWW. If your child’s forms are not up to date, s/he will not be able to travel on the trip. Here are the relevant forms that are needed. Please check with the health office if you are unsure if your records are up to date.
- Annual medical updates, signed by a parent, are required every year.
- On initial enrollment or at the beginning of grade 3, 6, or 9, a physician-completed form must be provided.
- Students with significant allergies or on daily medication should also submit the annual form completed by a physician.
Passport Collection for Week Without Walls
The middle school will collect passports and visas before the departure of the trips so that we can increase the chances of a smooth departure on Monday, 23 September. There will be four drop off times for documents before students depart. The collection point will be in the BBT. Drop off times are:

Request to parents: Drop off your child’s current passport and visa paper/residence permit/OCI card during one of these times.
AISC staff will sort the passports and secure them on campus until departure on Monday, 23 September. During the trips, advisors will have possession of the student passports. Parents picking up students on Friday, 27 September will need to get
the passport and visa from the student’s advisor.
AISC UN International Peace Day, Parade of Nations: September 13
This year's UN International Peace Day celebration will be held on Friday, September 13! The Parade of Nations will be held in the FAC Theater and students are encouraged to dress in their national attire.
Upon arrival to first block as usual, teachers will direct MS studentsto gather in the gymnasium. Once assembled by their respective national flag, students will proceed to the FAC Theater stage for the beginning of the parade. Each student will process across the stage with his/her country. Once they finish the parade, Grade 6 to 8 students will proceed to the cafeteria for live streaming of the program.
The Parade of Nations will be followed by a regular school day.

Q: How do you prepare Grade 8 students for the transition to high school?
A: During the spring of grade 8, students are given many opportunities to get ready for their transition to high school. In our MS Advisory program, the last unit of the year focuses on transition to high school and career exploration. During this time, MS students will have a special meeting with HS Raptor Agents to get an orientation to the high school and have some of their questions and/or concerns addressed. In addition, counselores from the high school run an orientation and information session for parents and also for students that provides further information about high school, facilitates course registration and answers transition-related questions. An optional IB & AP session will also be offered to provide initial information on these aspects of high school for those who might be interested. As early spring arrives, Grade 8 parents will be invited to attend these sessions (?via this blog??) in order to become familiar with the high school and have their questions addressed. Individual counseling for students during the transition to high school is available upon request. In the first semester of grade 9, all students take 'Freshman Seminar' which is designed to support students during their transition to high school.
