Dear Parents,
Our Music
Concert on December 5th was a wonderful success. Our students are to be
congratulated for their performances. They put in a lot of time and effort and
it definitely showed. Thank you to our parents for coming out and supporting our
budding musicians. A big thank you to our music directors: Ms. Dianne, Mr. Cary
and Mr. William for providing this occasion for the students and the additional hours getting our students stage-ready. Please check out the slide show of pictures from the event in the margin on the right-hand side of this page.
Winter
wonderland student party Thank you
to Ms. Jaya and Ms. Victoria and the student activity club for organizing a
fantastic dance for the middle school students! Thank you to the chaperones: Ms.
Elizabeth, Mr. Cary, Ms. Naomi, Ms. Flor, Ms. Mythili for your gift of
time. Thank you to the parents that provided the tasty treats –

Soccer Tournament Our
athletes worked hard over the season getting up early and arriving for

Attention 8th grade parents! The 8th grade science
department is pleased to present student-made movies on various topics of
Newtonian Physics and Forces at our Physics
Video Festival 2012. You are all cordially invited to attend and we
sincerely hope to see you there! Monday, December 10, in the Auditorium from 8:40
-10:15 am.
SAISA Track & Field: Any interested
athletes (grades 6-12) wishing to try-out for the Track & Field Team were
to attend an informational meeting today, Friday, December 7th at 3:45 in the
Media Room by the library. Any students that were not able to attend the
meeting should contact our Athletic Director, Ms. Elizabeth at the earliest. The
SAISA track and field meet will be held in Colombo on March 8-10th.
Spring Theater Production: Mandatory
Information Meeting The
Performing Arts Department will be putting on a spring production of the
Mahabharata during the week of April 22-27. We are looking for actors,
singers, dancers, musicians, technicians, designers, management and crew.
Previous experience is not required. There will be an information meeting
about participation and audition requirements on Monday December 10 from
3:45 to 4:30 in Mr Shawn's theater room. Come and catch the vision.
Celebrate The
Season - Lunchtime Holiday Revels, December 12 & 13, 2012 in the PAC
cafeteria. Calling
all amateur singers and musicians to get into the holiday mood (teachers &
students)! Do you know a holiday song to sing / play
for us? Would you like to come up with a trio / quartet to celebrate the
season? Meet Ms. Diane / Mr. William (or) email and enroll your name and the
item. First Come, First Served!

Withdrawing
students – Any students
that are withdrawing will need to contact Ms. Aziz in the middle school office
a minimum of two weeks prior to the withdrawal date to ensure all necessary
documents can be compiled in a timely manner. Records from AISC are usually
required by the next school. However, it takes us some time to prepare these
records. Please note that for students leaving school at the winter break, we
will be able to provide previous years AISC report cards and this year’s
mid-semester 1 progress report. However, report cards for semester 1 will
not be available until January. We will be happy to forward these to you at
your next destination.
Indoor Fun Meet December 14: What better way to end the last day of school
of the calendar year then with a fun indoor meet. The whole middle school will
gather in the gym while they work together in mixed grade level teams to
compete against each other in a variety of fun activities. Students should come
to school dressed in ‘active-wear’ appropriate for this fun physical activity. Thank
you to Mr. Tommy and Mr. Ron T. for organizing this event.

is a half-day.

Jan Jamboree is
coming! This year the High School Student Council will be
taking an active role in the annual Charity Fair by organizing activities for
elementary and middle school students. So far, plans are being made for over 25
different activities. In order to focus on this event being a fun-filled
afternoon for the younger students, the HS Student Council has renamed the
charity Fair to the Jan Jamboree. The HS Student Council will be restructuring
the way that the proceeds from the Jan Jamboree will be used. In the past, the
various service clubs would raise funds, often by requesting donations, holding
raffles or selling baked goods. In order to free the clubs of the need to raise
funds and allow them to concentrate on providing direct services to those they
serve, the HS Student Council will make the proceeds of the Jan Jamboree
available to the service clubs. The clubs will be asked to submit grant
proposals to the HS Student Council, who will then allocate a portion of the
Jan Jamboree funds to them. This approach will help the students learn how to
apply for grants and will give the HS Student Council members valuable
experience in evaluating the proposals and managing the funds. The shift in the
Charity Fair to the Jan Jamboree was a collaborative effort with Mr.
McCandless, the HS Principal, the PTA Vice President, Lakshmi Adityan, and the PTA
Treasurer, Srimathi Srinivasan. The PTA will continue to manage the food
service and the bazaar for the time being as the HS students develop their
organizational skills. I hope that we will see everyone at the Jan Jamboree on Saturday,
January 19 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.!
Please plan to join Ms. Bane for the monthly Parent Curriculum Coffee on Tuesday, December 11th in the Black Box Theater. The meetings are scheduled from 8:45 – 9:45 and from 2:15 – 3:15 (only plan to attend one, as the same topics are discussed at both meetings). This is a very important meeting, as we will be asking for your thoughts on key areas of our strategic objectives. In particular we will be gathering your input on: World Language at AISC, Effective forms of communication for a diverse, international community, Parent organization and involvement that supports our mission and core values.
