Below is a list of activities that are currently taking place and ones that will start in the later on this school year. Please remind your children to get involved.

A photographer will be on campus on 27 and 28 Jan to take yearbook photos of students who joined AISC after September 1 and those students who were unable to get their pictures taken previously. Students will be given a time to have their pictures taken. The shoot will be at the BBT from 8am to 2pm on both days.
Date Change of MAP Testing
We have moved our MAP testing date to later on in the year. Once the date is set, we will communicate this to you.
Association for Music in International School (AMIS)
Middle School Mixed Choir Festival, Tianjin 21-25 January
Congratulations to Kailey Porter, Jin Young Kim, Tanika Naidoo, Leonie Schuhmacher, and Siddesh Vijayakumar for being selected to attend the festival. Esben Schumann was also selected but he was sick and could not g0. We look forward to hearing about their experiences.
Looking Ahead...
This year we have two students have received the honor to participate in this festival: Yoon Jung Kim for Oboe and Suzu Toyonaga for French Horn. Congratulations to these two young musicians.
Housing for AMIS Band Festival
One of the highlights of the AMIS experience for students is the home stay with the hosting school family. This gives the visiting students a warm home and a surrogate family while they are participating in the event. When our students travel to other schools they are looked after in the same way.
AISC has a history of being excellent hosts and we’d like to enhance our reputation by hosting these students to the best of our ability. You do not have to have children in the High School or Middle School to host a student. Often the younger children love having a big sister/brother visit them. If you can help us with hosting, please contact Ms. Sally Victor in the Activities/Athletics Office.
We need families to host 2 or more students in their home. Visiting students need a bed to sleep in as well as the following:
- Pick them up from school each day and drop them off each morning.
- Feed them breakfast each morning. Items such as cereal, toast, fruit, eggs, etc.
- Pack a snack for them to eat later in the day. Some fruit, granola, etc.
- Feed them dinner on February 11, 12, 13. They will be served lunch every day and Dinner on Saturday Feb. 14th.
- Offer them an evening snack when they come back each day.
- Offer to wash their clothes each night if necessary.
- Let your guests call home to speak with their parents. Most of the musicians will have cell phones; however, it is polite to offer this option.
Visiting Author
As part of "Books and the Arts," our theme for this year's ES and MS Book Week, which runs February 9-13, we have the immense pleasure of welcoming two very talented artists to help us celebrate books. Lauren Stringer, a renowned author and illustrator, will be joining AISC alongside her daughter, Ruby Smith, who is an accomplished international dance instructor. While in Chennai, Lauren and Ruby will be leading workshops for both students and staff, showing them that stories can take on rich new meaning when connected to the arts!

Lauren Stringer
Lauren Stringer is an artist, author, script writer, and theatrical designer living in Minneapolis. She has exhibited her art in museums and galleries across the country. As an author and illustrator, she does numerous school visits around the world as well where she shares her passion for writing and drawing. Her work has won numerous honors, including the International Reading Association Children's Choice Award, the Minnesota Book Award, Booklist's Top Ten Art Books of the Year, and the Crayola Kids Best Book of the Year Award.
Ruby Smith
Ruby Smith is an international dance instructor, currently based in Tangier, Morocco. She teaches contemporary dance with a focus on personal expression, creativity, and connections between words, stories and movement. An esteemed choreographer, Ruby has worked with mentoring projects in the United States, as an artist in residence at the American School of Paris, and led dance workshops in London. Some of her work in London is also connected to performance workshops used to discuss important issues, such as domestic violence and other forms of abuse.
