7 August

Dear Middle School Parents,

Welcome back to school!!

There has been a buzz at school for the first two days of school. It has been great to see all the smiling faces of students as they see their old friends, meet new students and new teachers. The excitement and energy of Middle School students being back in school is palpable.

Meet our Middle School Faculty and Staff embracing the orange color of Middle School.

Middle School Coffees
Next week, please join us at the first Middle School Coffees of the year. I will take this opportunity to introduce myself and my background. You will also have an opportunity to learn a little more about the Middle School, especially the Standards-Based Grading and Report Card for this year. I will also provide a list of all the sports, clubs and activities available to Middle School students this year. You will also get to know other parents in your child’s grade level. I look forward to seeing the returning parents and meeting the new ones.
Grade 6: Wednesday, 12 August at 8:45 in Hall of Light (HOL)
Grade 7: Friday, 14 August at 8:45 in Hall of Light (HOL)
Grade 8: Monday, 17 August at 8:45 in Hall of Light (HOL)

A Message for Grade 6 Parents
I hope that the 2015-2016 is off to a good start for each of you.  I have seen many smiling 6th grade faces over the last two days and thanks to some outstanding guidance by teachers, the students are off to a great start.

I am writing to let you know that every Grade 6 student must bring their computer to Flextime on Monday.  Grade 6 teachers will be taking students to the CIC Meeting Space and dropping off their computers for configuration to the middle school network.  Some additional software will be added at that time as well.

It is crucial that two events occur before that time:
  1. Please make certain that the operating system is set to English
  2. Please make sure that a note is attached to the machine with the log in and password so that the IT staff can access the device.

It is important to note that Grade 6 students will not be able to access the middle school network until this configuration takes place.  Student should be able to pick up their device from the CIC Meeting Space at lunchtime, or by the end of the day at the latest.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions.

Best wishes,
Jason Hicks
Secondary Associate Principal

Food Services
AISC continues to work with the Taj Madras Flight Kitchen and improve the food quality and food service on campus. In order to meet the nutritional standards adopted by the school last year, all non-veg meals and soups now include protein, vegetable, fruit and dairy. The dairy portion takes the form of milk, flavored milk or flavored yogurt.  Students who do not, or cannot, eat dairy will have the option of a juice box instead. Starting Monday, all veg meals and soups will have a protein component as well.

Each day, in both the elementary and secondary cafeterias, students will have a choice of either veg/non-veg meals and veg/non-veg soups. In addition, the secondary cafeteria will continue to feature a salad bar and the Indian veg/non-veg meal. A graphic of different meal options can be found here. The secondary cafeteria will also feature a live counter with daily specials. Those rotating specials include: poori (chicken gravy or channa masala), tacos (chicken or veg), stuffed paratha with yogurt and pickle (chicken, and cauliflower or potato or dal), wraps (chicken or veg), and dosas (chicken masala, masala or plain).

Food services at AISC are always in continual improvement. Should you have questions, suggestions or concerns, please contact Food Service Manager Prakash Shanmugam (sprakash@aisch.org),  Elementary Associate Principal Lori Newman (nlori@aisch.org) or Secondary Associate Principal Jason Hicks (hjason@aisch.org). If you have not had the chance to have a meal in the iHub or Secondary Cafeteria, please join us. We would love to hear your feedback about the food at AISC.

Have a great weekend and see you next week at the Middle School Coffees.
