Dear Middle School Parents,
Did you know that someone has created a dyslexia font? Click on the link to find out more about it and you can even download a home version for free. While the font does not work for everyone. It has helped some people with dyslexia to read more easily. Interestingly, one researcher says that “Dyslexia isn’t something that you have, says Dr. Ross Cooper, a dyslexia researcher who is dyslexic himself. It’s something that you are. And it’s something, he emphasizes, that has value as part of the spectrum of human diversity” (The Washington Post). The quote comes from an extensive article (in the link above) about reading from the Washington Post. It’s a long article, but very interesting.
Middle School Coffee
Tuesday, 13 September @8:45 in the Hall of Light
One of the feedback we had last year from parents was to learn more about the curriculum that is taught in the middle school. Please join us at the next middle school coffee where Mr. Dan Love, Director of Teaching and Learning, and I will provide more information about the curriculum. Following the coffee, we will be introducing Learning Journeys where you will be able to visit classes while they are in session, from 9:30-9:50.
Introducing Celebration of Learning
As part of our commitment to continue to educate parents about the learning that takes place in the school. Middle School students will be presenting some of their assignments during the Student-Parent-Teacher conferences on Friday, 30 September in the Hall of Light. Please join us!
What is a Celebration of Learning? It is a fair in which middle school students will host different booths highlighting their learning from in different classes. Each booth will display an essential question addressed in class and students will be on hand to guide you through their displayed work.
- What do the selected artifacts show about what you learned and how you learned?
- Describe the Learner traits that you think your artifact(s) connect to.
- How is this experience connected to the trait?
Middle School Memory Wall!!!
Help beautify the school and practice your mural-making skills!
What: It’s the big painting with the hot air balloons and little feet.
Where: On the wall between the green cubbies and the pool.
Why: It’s getting a bit run down and needs some love.
How: We will be re-painting parts of it and maybe adding some new elements.
When: Thursday Sept. 15 & Friday Sept. 16
Added dates: Thursday Sept. 22 & Friday Sept. 23
After school 3:45-5:00.
Who: All middle school students are welcome! It’s okay if you can’t make it to all the sessions and there may be more sessions if necessary.

Saturday, September 24th: 8am-6pm - AISC Swimmers will compete with Stonehill School, St. Britto's, Chennai Corporation, Gateway International School, SDAT Dolphins and Velacherry.

Week Without Walls Parent Meetings

Parents of 7th grade students are asked to attend the 7th grade Week Without Wall Parent Information Meeting to be held on Wednesday, September 21 from 1:15 - 2:00 pm in the CIC. We will share details about the trip and answer questions you may have! We look forward to seeing you there!

The Grade 8 Teaching Team would like to invite parents of grade 8 students to an informational meeting about our Week Without Walls (WWW) trip on Wednesday, September 28 from 2:45-3:30 in the Black Box Theater (BBT). We will share details of the WWoW Trip and answer any questions.
