I hope you had a wonderful break and a good week back. We have the ASIAC Soccer Tournament 2016 coming up next Friday and Saturday, 20-21 January. Please come and cheer on our athletes. New Parent Coffee/Orientation Session - Rescheduled to Friday, January 20, 9:15-10:15
The New Parent Coffee/Orientation Session originally scheduled for Friday, January 13 has been moved to next Friday, January 20th in order to include more new families. The venue will stay the same, in the BBT.

As part of our efforts to communicate with parents and to keep them informed of what students are studying in the Middle School, please find the link above with a brief description of what students are currently studying in each subject area.

Raptor's Swim Club Swim-A-Thon Rescheduled
The Raptor's Swim Club Swim-A-Thon fund-raising project has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 3:45-5:00pm. Raptor's Swim Club Swimmers have collected pledges to raise money for the non-profit organization Lead Nepal. The money collected will be used to begin the rebuilding of a village in Nepal that was devastated by the April 25th, 2015 earthquake. Please contact Ms. Donna Fava if you have any questions.

Middle School Coffee
Our next Middle School parent coffee will on Tuesday, 24th January at 8:45 in the Hall of Light. Mr. Dan Love will be sharing the MAP data of our school and the university acceptances of our senior class of last year. Please join us and bring a friend to learn about the academic achievement of our students.

National Vex Robotics Workshop & Competition @ AISC Lead by AltSense

American International School Chennai (AISC) is happy to invite students (Grade 6 to 12)  to participate in the National Vex Robotics Competition event, which is scheduled at AISC during January 27th and 28th during School hours.  

Schedule/Venue
January 27 - 28, 2017  
Time:  8:30 am  to 3:30 pm
Venue: Hall Of Lights

Details about the workshop:
On 27th, we will start with assembling of Vex Robotics and learning the basics of the kit.
On 28th there will be a competition among the groups.
Winners will get prizes.  All the participants will be issued a certificate of participation.

After School Activities​ (ASA)
Semester 2: ​January 23 - May 26, 2017

IN-PERSON REGISTRATIONS: If you have missed registering online, in-person cash only registration can be done on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 17 and 18 at the Elementary Cafeteria from 8.00 am – 9.30 am. Please note the following:
  • We do not accept payments by cheque.
  • Payments cannot be dropped off at Receptions or Section Offices.
  • The ASA handbook & Registration forms will be available on school website, click here for quick link After School Activities.

Please check for conflicts with other middle school activities, before you enroll for your ASAs. Please see the December 16 Principal Notes for all the activities.

Repeated Information
Make-Up School Days
Due to missed school days as a result of local events and weather in the past two weeks, the following days in January will be official school days: Saturday, January 21 and Saturday, January 28
Why these days?
We are engaging these days as make-ups for two reasons:
  1. They are at the start of the second semester when all students and teachers across the school can make effective use of extra learning and teaching time.
  2. They are Saturdays at the end of 4-day weeks with calendared holidays. Students and teachers will not have 6-day study/work weeks.

Further, please note that the two Early Release Days in January will be full days of school in order to provide more instructional time in the month we return from the break.

Parent Book Club Update
Based on your feedback, our first Book Club choice is Screenwise: Helping Kids Thrive (and Survive) in Their Digital World by Devorah Heitner. This book is available on amazon.in and through kindle. And again, based on survey feedback, we will meet in the afternoon, divide the book into sections and come together to discuss the section we've read. We'll meet on the following dates:
