18 August

Dear Middle School Parents,

This is just a reminder for parents who have not been able to log into PowerSchool. Please drop by the main entrance every weekday morning from 8:00 - 9:00 every morning next week and IT support will help you with the process. Parents also will have access to PowerSchool registration support from 3:45 - 5:30 in MS CIC, before and during the MS Back to School Night on 24 August. If you cannot to come at the times listed, please contact ITSupport@aischennai.org to make an appointment.

Additionally, please remember to join us for the first Parent Coffees for Grade 7 & 8  parents on Monday, August 21 at 8:45 - 9:45 in the Hall of Light.

Please save the date and join us for Back to School Night on Thursday, 24 August at 5:00pm. The purpose of this night is for parents to meet the teachers and find out information about the course content, expectations of the teacher, and set the foundation for school to home communication and discussing ways that teachers and parents can work together to support learning. You will experience an abridged version of a “day in the life” of your student(s).

Because these are short information sessions, this will not be the time for discussions about individual students. Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on 28 and 29 September and parents can discuss and check in with student progress then. Before these conference dates, parents may schedule appointments with teachers at any time during the school year to discuss their child’s academic progress.

Below is the general schedule for the middle school. When you arrive, please pick up your child’s schedule in FAC Cafeteria. I look forward to seeing you at this important evening.

From the Health Office Reminder

Each year families will need to submit a Physical Examination form for each child enrolled at AISC. Please submit this form, when completed, to the Health Office.

In addition, new families also need to fill out a Health Form for each child. Returning families need to update the Health Form for each AISC student. If there are no changes to be made in the Health Form, please still fill in the Medication Permission page. Please submit the Health Form to the Health Office.

We appreciate your cooperation with this matter.

A Note from the Athletic Director, Mr. Ryan McFarland  - Student Health Forms
Welcome to the 2017/2018 school year. I hope all of you had a fantastic summer break and are ready for the new school year. As a quick reminder, all AISC returning students are required to complete the "Student Health Form" and "Physical Exam Form" by the beginning of this school year. This form was sent to each of you in the final version of Principal's Notes last June.

Any student wishing to participate in ASIAC Table Tennis or Badminton and SAISA Swimming must have this form returned to the school by no later than Tuesday, August 22, 2017. Students that have not returned these forms by this deadline, will not be permitted to practice or participate.

Model United Nations (MUN)
Just a reminder that MUN meetings start next week on Monday for beginners in room 3131 and on Tuesday for advanced MUN in room 2307. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Mac, Mr. Carlos and Ms. Lucy.

College Fairs
The High School Counseling Department is pleased to host two college fairs in the upcoming weeks. Middle School & High School students and parents are encouraged to attend both events to learn more about the attending colleges/universities.

The KIC/UnivAssist Fair will be held on THURSDAY, AUGUST 24th from 11:30-12:30 in the FAC Atrium. 15 schools from the USA will be in attendance.

The Council of International Schools Fair will be held on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th from 11:30-12:30 in the FAC Atrium. 30 schools from the USA, UK, Canada and Europe will be in attendance.

Please see attached flyers for specific details about universities who will be joining us. This is a wonderful opportunity for students and parents to gather information and learn more about the college admissions process.

Sharing News with children
In this age of technological sharing of news events through multiple online sites, and long before parents have had a chance to digest news events themselves or discuss it thoughtfully with their kids, our children are learning about news events happening all around the world. In many cases, Elementary and Middle school aged children aren't at an age where they can make sense of these current events and are being thrust into a political debate that can seem scary or overwhelming. This blog link ‘Explaining the news to our kids’ is a great read to help your children process news they may be hearing.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Alan Phan & Andrew Ranson
