Dear Middle School Parents,
As a middle school principal, I tend to read a lot of parenting articles to understand children while they grow up at this age and challenges that parents face at home. I have shared many of these articles in the past and parents have encouraged me to continue sharing them as they find them very useful. Here’s another article, which again is a great reminder for everyone, particularly, disconnecting from devices ourselves to model this behavior. The positive outlook of the article is that there’s time to make adjustments.
PowerSchool Clinic with Language Support
In order to support our parent community, we will be running The PowerSchool (PS) registration Clinic again next week from 8:00-9:00am.
- Monday - No language support in Hall of Light
- Tuesday
- No language support in Hall of Light
- Korean support during the PS Clinic in Madras Hall
- Wednesday - Japanese support during the PS Clinic in Madras Hall
- Thursday - Other Rep support during the PS Clinic in Madras Hall
Emergency Drill, Thursday 14 September @1:45
If you are around on campus next Thursday, please note that we will have an emergency drill. Here are the procedures:
- Parents (and their visitors) are responsible for obeying the instructions from security staff or school administration during an emergency situation.
- Parents should allow the evacuation process of our students to proceed undisturbed.
- The soccer field is the safe assembly area which is commonly designated during a fire evacuation.
- The soccer field has a specific area earmarked with a sign board for parent/visitors to assemble near the northwest corner of the field.
- In some situations, the school gym is the evacuation area, as well as the classrooms. When this is the case, parents will be instructed to proceed there and where to gather once they arrive.
- Parents/Visitors will not be permitted to move off campus while an emergency situation is in progress.
- In an emergency situation, parents should not use the elevators.
All School Spirit Week - 18-22 September
Here are the themes for our first All School Spirit week. Please encourage your children to dress up.
Monday: Pajamas Day

Friday: National Costume day
UN International Peace Day Celebration, Friday, September 22
One of AISC’s amazing traditions is the celebration of UN Day. This celebration will be held on Friday, September 22, as part of United Nations International Day of Peace. Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21. The General Assembly has declared this year’s theme as “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.”
At AISC, we celebrate the UN International Peace with the Parade of Nations and end with a special assembly. In preparation for the parade, K-12 students will gather in the gymnasium and, once assembled under their respective national flag, will proceed to the auditorium for the beginning of the parade. The PK students will gather in the auditorium lobby and, upon arrival of K-12 students, will lead the school into the parade. PK students will exit the auditorium when they finish their role in the parade.
Once our 6-12 students complete the parade, they will proceed downstairs and be seated in the cafeteria with live streaming of the assembly in the auditorium. After the parade, we will perform an assembly where will have student speakers will give short speeches about this day. This assembly will end at approximately 10:00.
To end the All School Spirit Week, students come to school in their National Costume on this day, especially for the parade. This promises to be a fun day for all and a chance to celebrate the international community!
Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences
We will have our first set of conferences on 28 and 29 September. Please save the date and join us in celebrating your child’s learning in the school. Please note that the format includes the student at the center of the conversation as they lead and explain their goals for the year and their learning thus far. Students are required to be at these conferences.
We will have our celebration of learning on Thursday, 28 September from 4:00-7:00pm in the MS CIC. We’re looking for student volunteers to present their learning to their peers and other parents. Please encourage your children to sign up in the link above.
What is a Celebration of Learning? It is a fair in which middle school students will host different booths highlighting their learning from in different classes. Each booth will display an essential question addressed in class and students will be on hand to guide you through their displayed work.
