Principal’s Notes
14 September
Dear Parents,
We are at the end of Spirit Week! Our students demonstrated their spirit and creativity throughout the week. Their costumes and crazy outfits offered some interesting conversation starters! Thank you to those of you who joined us for the Parade of Nations on Friday. This annual event reminds us of the relevance of our mission, Vision for a Learner, and statement on International-Mindedness as we educate a generation of global citizens with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to make a positive difference in the world. For your reference, these foundational documents can be found in our Middle School Handbook.
Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences
Earlier this week, you received an email with directions to make appointments for student-parent-teacher conferences on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 September. Conferences are by appointment only and made through the online booking system. The link for the online booking is: https://ptcfast.com/schools/American_International_School_Chennai_5.Further instructions for making appointments are in the email. A few points to remember about conferences:
· There are no classes for students on Friday 28 September.
· Conferences are designed for parents, students and teachers to engage in a reflective conversation about the student’s progress; therefore, please bring your child to the conferences.
· Conference appointments are made on a first-come, first-served basis.
· Conferences are limited to 10 minutes/appointment.
Several MS teachers will not available on these days due to other school obligations and schedules. Alternate conference times for them are available in the booking system.
Celebration of Learning
Friday 28 September will be our first Celebration of Learning. Each trimester, we showcase how and what students are learning in their classes. Students from all grade levels of the MS volunteer to present during the event. Teachers support students in preparing their presentations. Please stop by the CIC from 10:00 am- 12:00 pm, even if your child is not presenting. This is a great way to learn about our program!
Early Release Wednesday
On Wednesday 19 September we will have an Early Release day. Students are expected to depart campus in a timely and organized fashion upon dismissal at 2:00 pm. We appreciate your patience with traffic on these days as all three sections are picking up students at the same time. In preparation, please plan on allowing longer time for entry and exit to the school at release time. For our Middle and High School students, hot lunch will be served. Please note that the iHub will be open to provide an air conditioned waiting space until 2:40 pm in case drivers are delayed. Food services in the iHub will close at 1:50 pm.
Parent Coffee
The next MS Parent Coffee will be on Tuesday 25 September from 8:45-9:45 in the Hall of Light. We will be highlighting two topics: student progression in mathematics and co-curricular activities. Ryan Sager, Math Head of Department, will explain avenues for students to progress through the MS math courses, entry points to different courses and potential pathways for High School math. Ryan McFarland, Athletics & Activities Director, will provide a timeline of MS co-curricular activities and choices for students (ASAs, athletics and clubs) in the upcoming trimesters. If you have topics you would like addressed at upcoming parent coffees or questions, please email them to msprincipal@aischennai.org.
