Friday August 9

Dear Parents,

We had a successful first day of school on Thursday. Students were able to visit all of their classes to meet their teachers and preview each class. Today began our regular rotating schedule. We ended our short week with an assembly to welcome all students new and returning to the middle school. Students also learned about a range of activities available to them: assembly crew, theater production, Model United Nations, Student Voices Forum and Season 1 ASAs. Below you will find information related to sign ups for athletics and activities. Please note the dates for sign ups as Season 1 for arts, sports, and activities begin Monday. On behalf of the middle school faculty and staff, we look forward to working with you and your children this year!

Community Calendars
The youngest child in each family will be bringing home a paper copy of the community calendar. The community calendar is a vital resource to stay up to date on all-school and middle school events. Middle school events are noted in orange on the calendar.

Student Handbook Forms
All students received a Middle School Handbook on the first day. Please check with your child that he or she has signed the signature page. The signature page is due on Monday. Students can return the page to their advisor.

New MS/ES Librarian
Please welcome Ms. Barbara Bowman, our new MS/ES Librarian. She is joining us from Colegio Franklin D. Roosevelt in Lima, Peru. She and our library team will be available to help you and your children in the CIC when you visit.

Parent Coffees
The first parent coffee of the school year will be for Grade 6 parents in the Hall of Light on Friday, August 16 from 8:45 - 9:45 am. This special parent coffee is to answer questions Grade 6 parents may have about the middle school and their child’s transition. A parent coffee for Grade 7 & 8 parents will follow on Tuesday, August 20 from 8:45-9:45 am in the Hall of Light.

PowerSchool
PowerSchool is our Learning Management System. It allows you access information about your child’s classes and assignments as well as schedules and student progress reports. We will have a parent orientation for PowerSchool on Friday 16 August from 10:00-11:00 am in the Hall of Light. You may bring your own device or log onto power school through your mobile phone. Devices will be on hand for you to use as well. If you are new to PowerSchool, this video may be helpful for you to log in. Here are the directions that were shared by the AISC tech team: PowerSchool Registration Instructions for Parents.

Payonline
Middle school students have privileges to access the iHub as well as the cafeteria. To ensure your children have funds on their id cards for lunches, other food or purchases on campus, you can charge your card online through either of these links:
Access Payonline with this link: http://payonline.aischennai.org/
Alternatively, you can go to the school website (www.aischennai.org), and under Quick Links you will find the Payonline link.

SAISA & ASIAC Swimming from Giovanni Bello, Aquatics Director
If you are a swimmer and want to participate in swimming during SAISA season, please come on Monday 12th, Tuesday 13th, and Friday, 16th of August from 3:45 pm to 5 pm for tryouts at the Raptors swimming pool. It is mandatory to participate these three days for tryouts. This year SAISA will be at Lincoln School in Nepal.

Season 1 Activities Registration
Registration for Season 1 MS Activities starts today and you can sign up using this Google Form: ASA Registration. Some activities will begin the week of August 12th so note in the description what to do. Registration for some activities will be open today, August 9th and will be closed the evening of Tuesday, August 13th.   After registration is complete, our Athletics & Activities Office will send a confirmation email for approval of registration. This email will also contain further information about payments for any activities with a fee.
Below are links with information regarding the activities taking place during season 1:
For new families who are interested in doing a swimming activity during Season 1, please come to the pool on Saturday, August 10th, at 10:00am to find out your child’s swim level. Please do not sign up for a swimming activity until the student has been assessed for swimming level.  Returning students can check the swim level they should join by using their student ID number to look up in the below link. Note that Raptor Swim Club will not begin until the second season, and that the swim lessons for levels 5 and 6 are taking place. Clearing those levels will allow for enrollment in RSC for next season.
