Dear Middle School Parents,
Next week will mark the end of the beginning of the school year with Back to School Night. Please see below for details.
Back to School Night - Thursday, 29 August, starting at 6:00 pm, with refreshments at 5:30 pm
The purpose of this night is for parents to meet the teachers, find out information about the course content and expectations of the teacher. This sets the foundation for school to home communication and discussing ways that teachers and parents can work together to support learning. Students are welcome to attend to help with translation needs.
Because the time is short, this will not be the time for discussions about individual students. Student-Parent-Teacher conferences will take place in November. Parents may schedule appointments with teachers at any time during the school year to discuss their child’s academic progress.
Please note that the teachers will be presenting to all the parents in the locations indicated below. As the 6th graders are new to the MS, the Grade 6 team will escort the parents to their rooms after the whole group presentations.
I look forward to seeing you at this important evening.

PTA - Middle School Parent Team
If you missed the introduction of our middle school PTA parent grade representatives at the Parent Coffee last week, I would like to introduce them to you now.
Grade 6: Tammy Oakes
Grade 7: Sharmila Sukumaran
Grade 8: Susan Scales
Parents are a wonderful support to the school. Our parent team helps in a number of ways in the middle school from arranging for food and decorations at middle school events, supporting the teachers as requested by the grade-level team leaders, helping out with our annual yard sale fundraiser, and helping to contribute to school events such as UN Day, Charity fair, among other things.
It is important to note that the parent team do not hold formal meetings with parents, but may arrange social times to get to know each other better. They do not address parent concerns and will always direct parents to the classroom teacher first and secondly to the principal if needed. It is a great partnership and we are fortunate to have the support of our committed parent team.
Parent Coffee
At the Parent Coffee, I brought up the author Susan Cain who wrote Quiet: Power of Introverts. There is a great Ted Talk that Susan gave:

Classical Music Concert: From our Music Department
There will be a major classical music concert this Saturday, August 24. India's best working pianist (and native of Chennai!) is teaming up with a renowned pianist from Paris to present a piano recital in Chennai this week. This concert will be so good that it is being sponsored jointly by the Goethe Institut AND the Alliance Francaise. Everyone should check it out--and anyone who takes piano lessons should doubly be there! http://bpm.r.mailjet.com/2Dvq.html?a=4uYHMp&b=f911d3f1
Have a great weekend!
