Dear Middle School Parents,
As part of our continued effort to celebrate the learning that is taking place in our school, please stop by the Main Courtyard or near the middle school stairs on rainy days to read some wonderful stories written by our 6th graders. Below is an explanation from Ms. Lydia Okutoro-Seck about the project.
Welcome to Our Celebration of Writing!
In the first writing unit of Grade 6 Language Arts, students generated ideas for, and drafted, personal narratives that focused on small moments in which the main characters⏤students themselves⏤deal with conflicts and learn life lessons. The writing samples you see here represent important growth for our young writers. You will see that they practiced “stretching out” their small moments using dialogue, details, and description. You will see that they experimented with a variety of narrative writing techniques, such as inner thinking, specific action, and figurative language. You will see that they are learning how to apply the awesome rules and conventions of the English language! The students worked long and hard. And while a writer’s work is never truly done, we hope that you read all and enjoy these powerful and memorable stories.
Attention Middle School Writers, Illustrators and Speakers!
AISC is hosting the International Schools Writers Conference, which is specifically designed to allow middle school students a chance to work with a Graphic Illustrator, a Novelist or a Storyteller. This conference will be held during the weekend of February 18-19, right here on the AISC Campus.
Middle School students interested in participating in this conference please sign up here by December 12. This sign up is just an interest form. There is no fee to attend this conference for AISC students.
This is an exciting opportunity, and we already have schools joining us from Saudi Arabia, the Philippines and Hyderabad.
If you have any questions, talk to Ms. Pepper or Mr. Jet. Middle School students will also learn more about this in their Language Arts classes.

Join us for Cabaret 2017!!
Humanity is one big polyphonous choir, and this year's Cabaret show is the model of human harmony. Come out and witness the many styles and genres of song and dance that make the world beautiful at "Cabaret 2017: We Are The World", on Friday, 9 December at 6:30pm. With seventeen individual performances representing more than a dozen countries and cultures, and representation from every grade at AISC from 6th to 12th, Cabaret is fun for the whole family! Elementary, Middle, and High school parents are invited, as well as Middle and High school students. Elementary students are welcome to sit together with their parents for this glorious event. Cabaret 2017, on Friday, 9 December, at 6:30pm.
Departing Families
Please remember to request copies of report cards and letters of recommendations with at least a week’s notice. Students will need to return all textbooks, library books, sports uniform and any other items issued by the school. Everything needs to be settled before we can release the documents.

ASIAC Housing Request from Ron Thomson
In just two weeks time, we will be hosting the 2016 ASIAC Soccer Tournament from 9-10 December. We need your help in finding homes for our visiting athletes from AES and ASB. We have 40 boys and 40 girls to house from Thursday, December 8 through Sunday, December 11. Please let us know by contacting Ms. Sally Victor at vsally@aischennai.org. Hour of Code
Hour of code will be celebrated December 5-9. According to code.org, "There are over 8,079 events around the world in over 180 countries. To date, over 100 million students have participated, and girls in particular are being given a greater opportunity to learn programming than ever before." Last year, students in grades 1-4 participated in Hour of Code. We are hoping to get even more participation this year. During hour of code, students will participate at their pace in online tutorials learning the basics of computer programming. Learning to program requires students to use thinking skills, pay attention to details, patience, the ability to predict an outcome and much more. Bill Gates states, "Learning to write programs stretches your mind, and helps you think better, creates a way of thinking about things that I think is helpful in all domains.”
We will be offering a special parent session to learn to code with you son or daughter on Thursday December 8th. The Middle School will meet in the FAC Cafeteria at 12:05. There is no sign-up link, so please ask your child if they would be willing to do this with you.
