21 April

Dear Middle School Parents,

It was great to see so many parents here on campus E-Portfolio Presentations and Conferences and thank you for stopping by the Celebration of Learning. We were very fortunately to have so many students who volunteered to share their learning with you.

Other Celebrations in the Middle School
We are close to the end of the first year of our Design Technology program.  Here is the video from your robotics competition in class from the Electronics and Robotics class.

We are proud to share two new initiatives in the middle school that we started this year. We have introduced the Student Wellness Afternoon where students select activities that they like from Slacklining to Soccer to more quiet activities like Reading and Coloring. We introduced it for the first time in February and it was so popular that we held another one last week. We will hold more of these events again next year.

Additionally, we held our very first Middle School SEVAI Day where students went off campus to work with an animal shelter and beach clean up to working on campus to replant trees and packed care packages for delivery to homeless people in Chennai.

Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) Testing: 24-26 April and 2-4 May
Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) is a computerized adaptive test. Students will take tests in Reading, Math, Language and Science. MAP tests students with engaging and age-appropriate content. As a student responds to questions, the test responds to the student, adjusting up or down in difficulty. Our team uses the data to inform instructional decision-making for increased student growth and achievement.

MAP testing starts Monday morning, 24 April. Please remind your children to charge the laptops each night, especially during testing week. There is no preparation required for MAP testing. We do, however,  recommend that students get adequate sleep and a good breakfast before they come to school for the MAP test.

Heat and Hydration
Please know that we are very mindful of these hot temperatures and we monitor this closely every day.  Should the temperature reach 40C/104F we will not be sending our students out for PE.  Currently, our PE classes have ended their outdoors activities. Should they need to be outside, PE teachers will keep it brief. While we do not prohibit students from relaxing outdoors during break and lunch we will monitor kids to ensure that they do not spend too much active free time outdoors in the heat of the day. However, regardless of limiting sun exposure, please ensure your child remains adequately hydrated in this heat by ensuring they have a named water bottle with them every day. For time outside, sunscreen and a hat are also highly encouraged.

Electronic Lost and Found
We have other lost and found items at the main reception. Please stop by if you or your child has lost smaller valuable  items such as watches and mobile phones.
