Dear Middle School Parents,
We’re reaching the final stretch of the year and we are starting to have our culminating events for students with the E-Portfolio Presentations, Conferences, and Celebration of Learning. In the meantime, help your children pace themselves for the end of the year with many projects and assignments due at the same time. On top of it all, some of their friends are departing from school as well. We encourage you to keep the line of communication open with them and check-in with them daily.
E-Portfolio Presentations and Conferences: 20 & 21 April
Students will have either a 1:15 or 2:05 E-Portfolio presentation slot on Thursday, 20 April. Parent-Student-Teacher conferences will begin at 3:00pm on the same day until 6:00pm and all day on Friday, 21 April. Sign-up information will be sent out next week.
In the past, after the e-portfolio presentations, parents had a chance to schedule a follow-up conference with teachers. Given the increased focus on student reflection and more detailed information contained in the trimester report, plus your experience in the e-portfolio presentation, you may realize that there is no need to schedule a follow-up conference. In the past, many parents choose not to attend the Spring Student-Parent-Teacher Conference and based on recent changes, we anticipate that even fewer parents will make the choice to do so this year. With that said, should you feel that a conference is needed, please ask yourself the following questions:
- What information am I lacking? Can I ask my child to help me gain a better understanding of the question or concern I have?
- Have I communicated my question to the teacher as a part of an ongoing concern or could I find the answer to my question by calling or emailing the teacher?
- Have I asked my child to show me his or her e-portfolio, Moodle page, Google docs folder, rubrics or other evidence that may help me answer my question?

Without much preparation, our students did an incredible job, many qualifying for the next round in Athens, Greece; Cape Town, South Africa; or Hanoi, Viet Nam. Poetry Month in April
The AISC community celebrates Poetry Month in April, connecting Springtime Poetry and US Poetry Month, by making this worldwide initiative be part of our own celebration in Chennai. This year the World Language Department in collaboration with Mlf-Renault French School, have extended the opportunity to everyone in our community who wish to submit their poem to poetryschool600113@gmail.com by April 10, 2017. It should be an original poem and can be written in any language, to make it accessible to all, please submit an English translation of the poem written in a language other than English. This month students are writing poems in their world languages classes, working in the target language, challenging themselves to express and shine. The week of April 17-21, 2017 student work and submitted poems from the community will be displayed in the courtyard, feel free to be part of it by bringing a poem in your pocket and sharing it. For more information: POETRY MONTH 2017.
Have a great weekend!
